Waxing Hair Removal – Is It Right For You

Waxing hair removal is one of the most popular methods of getting rid of body and facial hair. Its quite popular because it is: - inexpensive - can be done in the privacy of your own home - lasts for several weeks because it starts to slow the regrowth of hair Read the following questions to determine is waxing is right for you.

How does waxing hair removal work?

Wax is spread into a very thin layer over the skin.

Next, a cloth strip is pressed and smoothed over the fresh hot wax. The skin is then pulled back tautly with on hand while the other hand pulls the cloth strip off in the direction opposite to that of which the hair grows. In this process the hair and dead skin cells have been removed with the wax and you are left with smooth hairless skin.

Is there a difference between hot and cold waxes?

A good wax will melt above body temperature and can easily be spread over the skin without much mess.

As the wax hardens, it traps the hair in the wax so that the roots of the hair is also fully removed.

Cold waxes generally have a pre-coated strip which is then just pressed to the skin and removed with one step.

Like the hot wax, it will trap the hair and remove the roots of the hair as well.

Cold waxing is also known as "Persian Waxing". What is the effect of waxing hair removal on my skin?

Your skin is not harmed as long as the wax isn't too hot and that you use your waxing kit as directed.

Sometimes your skin may feel a slight sting and may be red in color. To alleviate any irritation and to calm the skin, just use an aloe gel or cream afterwards.

Some people find that their skin will initially react with redness or bumps but then disappear within a few hours.

Are there any health precautions with waxing hair removal?

Some doctors do not recommend hair waxing for people that have diabetes, varicose veins or poor circulation since they may be more susceptible to infection.

Also people who take some medications such as: Renova, Differin or Accutane are advised to steer clear of hair waxing on the face since these medications tend to weaken the skin and may cause tearing of the skin as the wax is removed.

If your you have warts, pimples, moles, rashes, sunburn, chapped skin or skin irritation, you should avoid waxing those areas.

You should never apply wax to broken skin, peeling skin or areas that have varicose veins.

Avoid applying wax to the nipples if removing hair form the chest area.

What body areas can be waxed?

It is advisable to test a small area of skin to wax to test the skin's reaction to the removal but generally any area of the body can be waxed.

The real exceptions are the male genitals, nipples, inside the ears and nose and eyelashes.

How long will it take for hair to reappear?

Often it takes between 3-8 weeks for hair to regrow.

The hair should grow back with a finer appearance and less of it.

Over a period of time, the hair may stop growing back altogether.

How can I minimize the pain?

The best method to minimize pain is to use an astringent on the skin before using the wax. This will open the pores containing the hair follicles. this will make removal easier with less pain.

Generally most people that wax find that the pain is minimal and will choose waxing as their preferred method for removal because of the satisfaction of the smooth results and delayed hair growth.

Waxing Upper Lip: Best How – To Video

I posted some lip waxing videos from expert village awhile back but I discovered this video series today and I actually like it better. The esthetician explains things more in detail and the video and sound quality are better too.

Lip Waxing – How To Video

Expert Village has released some pretty nice tutorials on waxing the upper lip. I found this helpful. When I first started waxing I would often put on too thick of a layer and that just makes it more difficult to remove the hair properly. It's important to apply a thin layer of wax so that it can effectively pull the entire hair out.

eHow features a 15 second commercial before the actual video plays so please bare with me. :)

Sugaring Hair Removal

Sugaring is not as glamorous as the infomercials make it out to be. Sugaring hair removal can be one of the most painful forms of waxing. At least in my past experience with Nad's. Not only are you removing hair but it feels as though you are removing layers of skin as well. After a "sugaring" my skin always felt a bit tacky to the touch and was tender for a few days. Not nearly as bad as using the Sally Hensen "wax strips" which is more like a super-duper version of packaging tape.

In my opinion, if you were considering sugaring rethink it and opt for waxing which is far less painful and does a great job in one application versus sugaring where you may need to recoat and strip the same area again to remove the all the unwanted hair.
